September 2009
Dear Friends,
The months of July and August were hot and quiet in Athens, as half
of the population left for the mountains and islands looking for
rest and relaxation, which makes it so much easier to get around,
but, most of our people in church were gone also, so we looked
anxiously for their return.
Two weeks before the end of summer, fires erupted on the mountain
near our house, which destroyed 220,000 acres, 80 homes destroyed,
and 200 damaged. The government offered paid days for people not to
return to their homes so that they could get the fires under
control. Soon as the fires were under control, two earthquakes under
5.0 in the Richter scale shook the city, but not their hearts. Then
a storm system moved in causing floods to the areas that had
suffered fire damages last year, causing one billion dollar damages
with the loss of 2 lives. In the midst of this there was a terrorist
attack to the stock market building, raising the political
thermostat. All of this chaos in the country caused them to call for
early elections.
In spite of all this, we continued to evangelize Athens, Patra, and
Corinth. Our evangelism partner and friend Leonardo, the 92 year old
man, after several people took New Testaments said this, “We
unleashed a heavy attack on darkness this morning, and God showed us
favor.” Now we begin to handout devotional calendars all the way
till Christmas. Our church is doing good, seeing growth in the
English services. We have had several new visitors. Ladies Bible
studies resumed this week, one for the English and another for the
Greek. James is doing a good job teaching the adult English Sunday
School while Cristina teaches the little ones; Amalia is growing in
leaps and bounds, she is a blessing to have around
We continue our involvement with the refugee center which feeds 400
weekly. Izzat is doing a good job with the Arabic night there, which
now is running 45 people. The Persian church is doing good and
pastor Yousef desires to start a Bible Institute to train these
believers before they move on to the West. We are also starting a
Bible study for the Persian ladies; please keep this in your
prayers.

Rejoice with them that do rejoice and weep with them that weep (Rom
12: 15). At the conclusion of the summer, we rejoiced with Pana and
Amber (Izzat and Rita’s son) who had a beautiful wedding in the
island of Zakynthos, and the gospel was preached to many of the
relatives and friends. That same day, we wept with Taki had April
who lost their baby, born full term, please keep them in your
prayers and that their testimony in the village may lead many to the
Lord.
Laboring Together Till Jesus Comes,
