Dear Friends

We are still recovering from the events of the New Year. New Year’s Eve, Esmeralda’s 16 year old brother, Eriko, died in a motorcycle accident. We spend the whole day at the hospital with the family encouraging them and trying to help in any way. The family comes from a Muslim background and Muslim village in Albania. Elpida, Esmeralda, Vera, and Eriko were saved several years ago, and we have been praying for Christo to be saved since then. Surpassing the sorrow and pride of this Muslim father, Christo received Jesus as his personal Savior. Elpida, requested that Eriko should have a Christian funeral back in the home village, and sobbing, Christo agreed saying, “God will be glorified in the death of our son.” God provided a believer 40 miles away from them to go and perform the ceremony; this was a miracle in itself. The whole Muslim community was present and did not revolt, but rather heard the Word of God preached in total peace and has since received Elpida’s testimony. Pray that her friends and family in Albasam to be saved.

Thanasi has been a great encouragement for us since we came and has opened many doors of opportunity to witness in his village Thiva, in Corinth, and here in Athens. New Year’s Day he was on the phone crying out to the Lord on behalf of Eriko’s family and in the morning we received a phone call, “Thanasi is gone, he is with the Lord.” I rested the phone in unbelief, ran over to his house and met Katerina, his wife, and encouraged her in the Lord. The next few days we traveled to Thiva to be with his family and to the funeral. The Lord has left that door open. Thanasi’s brothers Christo and Dimitri have received the Lord and also his parents, the Tsipis, but not Vasili and Kiriako, nor the three sisters in Athens, Archondia, Filothei, and Ksanthoula. Please pray for their salvation. Thanasi’s desire was to see his whole family saved and they are listening and have a lot of questions and we will continue to minister to them and be there for them. God brought us together even in this time of grief, and it is not a coincidence that Archondia lives just a block away from Eriko’s house, and had heard of the accident when we mentioned it, so we have an open door to go and visit her in her house when we visit with Elpida, as they are both grieving the loss of their loved ones. Please remember to pray for Elpida and Christo as they return from Albania, back in the home where they last saw their son alive.

Pray for Katerina’s financial situation, as Thanasi was the sole supporter of the family. She must sell the house before the bank takes it over since she does not have any income to pay the bank notes. This is very important. The Bible says, in James 1:27, Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction. We are doing our very best to help this poor widow in her affliction and we ask you to join us, not only in prayer but in deed as well.
