February 2004

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior. Through it may seem odd; it is still in order to wish you all a very Happy New Year. Here in Greece, people get together till mid March to “Cut the Pita” and wish Happy New Year to each other. Pita is a special round cake with a coin inside. They cut the first piece and put it on the side and say, “For Christ,” the second piece is “For the man of the house,” and the next for the wife, and so on and so forth. This they do at home, then at work, then at the social groups: at the athletic clubs, church groups, political groups, you name it, they find a way to keep “cutting the Pita” till mid March. So if we did it the Greek way, we would be cutting the Pita with you all right now, Happy New Year!!!

During the Holiday season I took everyone after Sunday services by bus to Syntagma (Constitution Square) and passed out over 4,000 tracts, devotional calendars, and other literature. We had a great time, the people enjoyed doing this for the Lord, and the Greeks were very receptive with the holiday spirit. Please pray that we will see fruit from this evangelistic effort. I find that the Greek people are so apathetic lately. It grieves my spirit to see how people have no interest in spiritual things and how they are so wrapped up in themselves that they have no time for God.

We would like to share with you a blessing that we had this past year.  We had the privilege to print the first Greek Baptist Bible Tribune endorsed by the Rawlings Foundation.  One of our prayer requests and goals after our last furlough was that we would be able to bring a magazine in Greek to the Greek people.  With the generosity of Dr. Rawlings and the encouragement of Dr. Kennedy we took a step of faith and there we have it: the very first Baptist magazine printed in
Greece, Please pray that it will
make a difference in Greece. (Pictured in the title above: Taki Korianitis, me, and Dr.Kennedy planning for the Greek Tribune)
