Dear Friends,

Athens 2004 Olympics was a great success.  In spite of all the bad reports about Greece  not ever going to be ready and not be able to pull it off, Greece did a fantastic job in hosting the Olympics and it became the model for other small countries such as this to be future hosts.  The Olympics is an opportunity for evangelism, many religious groups from all over the world get involved in reaching the peoples of the world in this event and so did we.

Athens Olympic Team 2004

We met with Bro. Feghaly who put together a group of 110 people to come and help us evangelize the Olympics 2004. They brought 165,000 tracts in various languages, and David Hardin with Bible Project brought 25,000 Romans and Johns in English and Greek. Suburban Baptist Church of Moore, OK helped us order 65,000 Greek tracts and Pond Hill Baptist Church in North Haven, CT sent us several boxes with 20,000 tracts and Romans and Johns that they printed and put together. Broadway Baptist Church in Sweetwater, TX and TriCity Baptist Glenstone, OR also sent a love offering for Tracts. We thank each one of you for your love and burden, and to all that took part in bringing us before the throne of Grace, fighting for the souls of men in Greece.

The Evangelism Team, Global Outreach or GO Athens 2004 went out everyday into theGeorge Damakos witnessing at Olympic Games 2004 streets of Athens and passed out over 250,000 tracts in both Greek and English and some other languages, over 30,000 Romans and Johns and New Testaments in Greek. We were out on the streets for 6 hours at a time; the team was excited and ready to do the Lord’s work. Many times we were stopped by the Police and we had to move on not to cause any disturbance. We were a crowd of 130 in Team T- Shirts, so the Police were afraid to cause any trouble and start up a riot and get a bad report, so for the most part they were diplomatic and insisted that since we did not have a permit we could not continue to pass out any more literature. Where is the freedom of religion in this country?

One man caused so much trouble while we passed out tracts at the Train Station in the port of Pireas, that they brought both the police and the undercover security to the scene. After seeing that we were not disturbing anyone but were passing out free Greek Bibles, the man that called for the police was taken to the station for causing trouble. Praise the Lord. Another incident, right in the heart of the city of Athens, took place when we were gathered and singing in the corner of the busy street of the Constitution Square. One man made phone call and a dozen police showed up to the scene. In spite of the commotion, the choir continued to sing, while people were gathering to hear and take the literature. Finally one of the authorities said, “If you sing in Greek instead of English you can stay.” So we did and the police left. Praise the Lord for His protection.

We give God the Glory for the 15 that got saved. However, It is with great sorrow that I tell you that with all the literature passed out within 10 days, we received only 6 phone calls, only 3 replied the request cards, and only one that got saved (led by our daughter Cristina) has been coming to church since. Please continue to pray that more will respond. Continue to pray for the Greek people who call themselves Christians yet don’t know Christ; their hearts have been hardened and they don’t want to hear the truth.

Laboring together till Jesus comes,

George and Luisa Dimakos
