The DIMAKOS in Greece

September 2001

Dear Pastor and friends,

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my HIGH TOWER.  Psalm 18:2

As we sat in disbelief, watching the high towers of N.Y. City crumble down into dust, with thousands of people trapped, a great grief came upon us.  We spent most of our lives in Long Island, New York.  Our families live there.  Our sending church is there. Our heart is there.  We remembered driving to NY while on deputation and furlough, approaching the city in view of the State of Liberty and the Twin Towers, it was a sign that we were home, and the kids would sing, "I love New York".  But this tragedy was indeed overwhelming.  The agony of not knowing if loved ones were also trapped there... Our son had just moved to Boston, so close to it all…  We immediately went into prayer and looked up to God for strength, who is our HIGH TOWER

After a few days of sitting glued on to CNN with the expectations that more survivors would be found, we began to go back to our routine.  Our desire to see souls saved grew even stronger with the sounds of war in the air.  We took an evangelistic trip to Patra and Zakynthos this month and distributed thousands of tracts.  Two people already responded.  We covered the city of Zakynthos with tracts, which caused the citizens to go into an uproar.  The priest retaliated the next day with pamphlets "The Baptists" which exposed us as heretics.  Taki Korianitis baptized five, praise God.  God is our HIGH TOWER and He alone will be glorified.

From our trip to Kalamata last month, three people called asking for New Testaments. Pray that we will see fruit from this ministry.  In the church in Athens we have had several people come this month, even a Russian priest and his family.  Praise the Lord for His goodness.  Pray specifically for Stefanos, and Voula's salvation.

We started Arabic services.  Izzat, an Egyptian member, preaches in Arabic and his son translates for me.  A Lebanese family has been coming faithfully, please pray for their salvation, Caesar and Laura.  Pray for safety because of the Holy War tensions.

Please pray for Soula, our downstairs neighbor, she is the fulfillment of Proverbs 21:9. It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house. We have been in this God-given house one year this October, and this neighbor's constant complaining has reached its peak. A couple of weeks ago she sent her brother to beat me up. She has come to church once for Mother's day, but this didn't help or change her attitude. We learned that she had harassed the previous owner, even taking them to court unjustly. Please pray with us that God will move her heart or just move her

Thank you for your faithful support,
